Marshall McLuhan Audios from Bob Dobbs’ Library

John Culkin & Marshall McLuhan at Fordham, 1967

“People play with McLuhan’s ‘ideas’ however it suits them. Eventually, they might get curious about the man himself. There are many books and much footage that serve up a useful but inevitably distorted interpretation of MM.

Therefore, the most accurate window/microphone closeup of MM himself is the studio recordings of MM at work/play with his colleagues, made by Tony Schwartz. I doubt there is an equal amount of surveillance of any other 20th Century genius. It's a remarkable and a one-of-a-kind archive … and the only way to experience Marshall McLuhan HIMSELF!

I am the only person who liberated these recordings (about 100 hours) from the Library of Congress at considerable legal risk and expense. And I gave it to the world for free. Top that or praise me!!

My notes are extremely useful, too.

The rest of you ‘scholars’ are merely visiting.”
